A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role with operational/project responsibilities, or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome.
Key responsibilities may include: supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving issues, and building relationships internally and externally. Roles may include, but are not limited to: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.
Entry requirements for this standard will be decided by each employer, behavioural and self-management requirements typically include candidates who demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making, professionalism, inclusivity, flexibility to the needs of the organisation, and a drive to achieve in all aspects of work.
Qualifications and Progression
Typically this apprenticeship will take 12-18 months to complete.
On completion of the programme, assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours, and the final synoptic end-point assessment, leaners may choose to register as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute to support their professional career development and progression. It may also be possible to move onto the Operational/Departmental Management standard if appropriate to role.
Learners without a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in English and maths will need to achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. Apprentices can also achieve their Level 3 Principles of Management and Leadership with CMI through taking the following units:
301 – Principles of management and leadership
302 – Managing a team to achieve results
305 – Building stakeholder relationships using effective communication
311 – Contributing to the delivery of a project
312 – Managing daily activities to achieve results
314 – Managing budgets and resources
318 – Managing data and information
321 – Managing own personal and professional development
